Ban Bestiality in Florida [17 Jan 2009|02:23pm]

keyla978
Hey guys!
Bestiality is an action that is cruel and extremely harmful to animals. When put through such a vulnerable situation the animals have no choice but to undergo the horrible pain, fear, and torture. I started a petition urging the Florida legislative to ban bestiality in Florida.
Please visit the following link and sign the petition.

deodorant that is animal-friendly and yet doesn't suck [09 Jan 2009|05:30am]

xandersman
Hi all,
Does anyone know of any deodorants that are not tested on animals, but are still quality products? I've tried Tom's of Maine (hate it) and Kiss My Face (hate it). Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!
Jeff

Petition against the tattooing of animals for aesthetic purposes in the UK [13 May 2008|12:13am]

kawaiinoir
I'm sorry if you've already seen this and apologies for cross-posting everywhere but I really wanted to spread the word about this petition. It can only be signed by UK citizens. It is against the tattooing of animals for aesthetic purposes. Not only does that cause pain to the animal without any just cause but it can also lead to further complications such as infections and severe allergic reaction. This is completely cruel and unnecessary and I hope some people will sign.

Here is the petition:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/banpettattooing/

I'm sorry if this is inappropriate, though I checked the user info of all the communities I posted to. Please delete if so.

Go against society... [06 May 2008|05:53pm]

Hello everyone!
I'm your new maintainer, Maggie. If you need anything then do not hesitate to ask.

This is just a quick update - I know the communitys dying a little bit and I really don't want to let that happen so if we could all put our heads together and think of new ways to spice it up or get people posting more often then let me know.

For now, I'm just going to leave all you iPod freaks happy (like myself) and tell you that there is now a PETA Podcast to download! Unfortunately it's not up on iTunes yet but you can download it here and then put it on your iPod for hours of wonderful animal-rights listening.

And, I leave you with a special sort of activist...Collapse )

HELP STOP THE SALE OF DYED FISH IN US PET STORES! [16 Mar 2008|08:23pm]

gigi_bobbsey
Please sign our petition to STOP THE SALE OF ARTIFICIALLY DYED FISH in US pet stores!

Please click the following link to sign and view the petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/stop-the-sale-of-dyed-fish

The term painted fish refers to ornamental aquarium fish which have been artificially coloured through extremely cruel processes in order to appeal to consumers, especially young children. Buying an animal only due to its appearance is wrong. The color in the fish fades within months, leaving it undesirable to those who bought only it for its appearance. Unfortunately, most of these fish perish due to dye-related complications far before the color has a chance to fade.

Japanese harpoon ship captures UK protester [15 Jan 2008|10:11pm]
prox2
-forwarded- please repost-

For those of you who might not have heard, two activists from the Sea
Shepherd are currently being held hostage by a Japanese whaling boat.
One is UK campaigner Giles Lane; the other is Benjamin Potts, from
Australia. At one point it appears they were tied to a radar mast in
freezing weather. They were seized when they tried to deliver a letter
to the captain of the Japanese whaling ship which has been engaged in
illegally killing whales in the Antarctic. For more information see

http://www.stuff.co.nz/4357626a10.html

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml;jsessionid=T2YYSZM0PL3LRQFIQMFSFFOAVCBQ0IV0?xml=/earth/2008/01/15/eajapan115.xml

or visit the Sea Shepherd's website at http://www.seashepherd.org for
the latest updates.

Friends and colleagues of the imprisoned activists are calling for
solidarity protests to take place across the world against Japanese
embassies and consulates. The Japanese government continues to ignore
international moratoriums against whaling, calling their slaughter
necessary for 'research purposes', despite repeated calls for them to
stop. The Sea Shepherd is one of the few groups putting action in to
words and fighting directly to save the whales from hideous deaths at
the end of barbed harpoons.

If Giles and Benjamin are not released by 9am (London time) tomorrow
morning a protest in solidarity with them will take place tomorrow
(Wednesday) outside the Japanese Embassy in London, starting at 2.15pm.
Everyone welcome, bring banners, etc. If they are not released by 9am,
the demo will still go ahead as a general anti-whaling protest.

Those of us who know Giles know he is a courageous activist for the
planet. In the meant time please continue to email the Japanese
embassies and consulates in your country - demand that Giles and
Benjamin are released and Japan's unnecessary and illegal whaling ceases.

Gluten Free Vegan Options [06 Nov 2007|08:39pm]

[ mood | sick ]

Bonjour to all. Cutting to the chase of this blog (which was stated in the subject) I am on a quest for gluten free vegan options. Often vegan meat substitutes contain wheat or gluten products, as do other products often used in the vegan kitchen. If you know of any online store that might have gluten free vegan options, or any store in South Carolina/ North Carolina, (or if you have any products that you are willing to share the name of, have a great vegan recipe etc etc. ) It would be so helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time out to read this, and even more thanks if you respond. Much love! STAY VEG! whooooo.

BOYCOTT PetWorks Petstore in Grossmont Shopping Center/La Mesa in San Diego, CA [05 Jun 2007|09:43pm]

vfj67
[ mood | depressed ]

PetWorks PetStore located in Grossmont Center/La Mesa in San Diego, CA sells sick, unhealthy puppies to unsuspecting customers and doesn't stand behind their warranty if you should have problems. This is not a chain store, but an individually owned and operated pet store whose owner is Richard Fuller, of Richard Fuller Inc. d.b.a. PetWorks. If I can prevent one person or family from going through what I went through, then this blog will have been worth it!
We all hear the horror stories about pet stores, puppy mills and how it's best to go through a reputable breeder or adopt from  the humane society right? But we all see those cute, adorable puppies in the window and think..."it could never happen to me?" But if you look up Petworks on Yahoo Reviews, Google Blogs or My Space or even the Better Business Bureau of San Diego, like I should have done first, then you will see the numerous stories of families devastated by PetWorks' ruthless and unscrupulous practice of selling sick, defective and unhealthy puppies to people.
So here's my story to add to the list of people victimized by this heartless pet store PetWorks in the Grossmont Shopping Center of La Mesa/San Diego:

I went in on 01/02/07 and fell in love with a 3 month old Golden Retriever and was wanting a puppy in my life to train as a service dog. I am a disabled, U.S. Navy veteran and wanted a canine companion. I had been to the store before and seen the smiling faces and joy of all the people looking at puppies. People buying them impulsively like we tend to do. I ,also, had a store credit from earlier in the year when I almost bought a Westie from them and changed my mind because when I got home I realized I truly couldn't afford the price for the Westie. So they seemed to understand and gave me a year to use this credit at their store, but no refund. I was impressed and thought it was very nice of them to do that for me.
Well, I should have used my store credit to buy pet supplies and donate them to the animal shelter as good karma, but No! I saw this 3 month old golden retriever puppy, had the money this time, and yep, I went for it. The puppy was so sweet and smart. I came back 3 days after I had paid for the pup in full earlier on Tuesday, 01/02/07, to bring the puppy home on that Friday, 01/05/07, over weekend so we could have time to bond. When I got to the store, a store employee told me "I have some bad news...the puppy has contracted kennel cough (a highly contagious illness btw) and can't go home yet." That was Friday, 01/05/07, and I was finally able to bring the golden retriever puppy home on 01/30/07 after the puppy had finished all the antibiotics. I had the puppy home for less than 24 hours when I noticed the puppy had severe dry skin, couldn't stop chewing and scratching, and was very uncomfortable. Their Veterinarian diagnosed the puppy's skin problem as Seborrhea which is a hereditary defect.
They only gave me a 50% refund minus $80 for some trumped up kenneling fees took the puppy back and resold it. I tried to get all my money back in small claims court. But I lost! I had signed two addendum forms after the original contract so the judge had to decide in their favor. He did say that he was definitely convinced they intended to sell me a sick dog, that the kennel fees was in his opinion "chinsy" and that if it were his business he would have given me all my money back with an apology.
Not only did they refuse to honor their 1 year warranty, but the two addendum forms they had me sign voided their warranty....pretty sneaky huh? So I am out $540, still have no service dog and they took the dog back and resold it! I hope to prevent anyone else from going thru what I did. This place needs to be shutdown and put out of business!

SO STAY AWAY FROM PETWORKS PETSTORE IN THE GROSSMONT SHOPPING CENTER IN LA MESA/SAN DIEGO, CA!

Oh and the BBB which they belong too wasn't much help either in resolving this either. Petworks uses BBB logo as just a ploy. PetWorks belongs to the BBB and is using them, in my opinion, to appear to be a reputable business. If you do your research like I did not do first, then you will see that this is a very sad, but true story similiar to other people who have bought pets from PetWorks.

Why isn't Mindy from the band Lydia on the "Sexiest Vegetarian of 2007" list?

If I'm not mistaken she's been vegetarian for a few years, and when we saw them at warped she talked about kids needing to go sign up at your tent
